Most of you know what weapons work well against which mob types but I thought some of you may not know how much damage one weapon type does in comparison to another or what crit hit benefits are associated with it. So I put together the following, first is a list of damage types starting from Most damaging type to least damaging type. Then below that is a short description of critical hit damage followed by recommendation for modifications.
EMP - Does the most damage of any weapon type but only damages armor
Crit Hit: will shut down the target's armor for a short time.
Recommended Mods: Debuff to EMP, Steal Armor, Crit Hit Increase
Fire - Does small amount of DOT on every hit; does a large amount DOT when critted; DOT procs 5 times
Recommended Mods: Debuff to Fire, Crit Hit Increase
Electric - No crit associated with this damage type
Crit Hit: will have an arc similar to Lighting
Recommended Mods: Debuff to Electric, Crit Hit Increase
Laser - Has a high chance of critting
Crit Hit: causes a debuff that lowers targets ranged damage by 10% when critted
Recommended Mods: Debuff to Laser, Crit Hit Increase
Sonic - Causes knockback when critted
Recommended Mods: Debuff to Sonic, Crit Hit Increase
Physical - Does large amount of DOT when critted; DOT procs 5 times
Recommended Mods: Debuff to Physical, Crit Hit Increase
Ice - Stuns target when critted (10 second cool-down before targets can be stunned again))
Recommended Mods: Debuff to Ice, Crit Hit Increase
Virulent- Does the least amount of damage; completely ignores armor
Crit Hit: will place a small snare on the target
Recommended Mods: Debuff to Virulent, Steal Health, Crit Hit Increase
* Note: Some lower damage type weapons may in fact do more damage than higher rated damage type weapons because of buffs or weapons grade (Modified, Experimental, Prototype). All things being equal this chart shows Most amount of damage to Least amount of damage. There are a couple of exceptions, such as the case of Torqueshell Rifles.
